About
America Must Be Destroyed was the third album by heavy metal band GWAR, and the 2nd on Metal Blade Records. Pretty much the entirety of this album was inspired by the North Carolina incident in which Dave Brockie was arrested for obscenity because of his Cuttlefish of Cthulu. Brockie was disgusted by the violation of his rights, so in turn he created a concept album revolving around the “Morality Squad”. A group that attacked the members of Gwar ad stole Oderous’s Cuttlefish. Since it’s a concept album, the opening song, “Ham on the Bone” describes the robbery of his Cuttlefish. The story then quickly goes to the bands mighty fortress in Antarctica. Here, Oderous orders his slaves to shoot up a dinosaur egg with crack. The result of doing this is Gor-Gor, a mighty T-Rex that reigns havoc on the U.S.A. While this is all going on, the Morality Squad enlists the help of Father Bohab, whom is a catholic priest that the squad wanted to crucify GWAR in the media. A long form video, Phallus in Wonderland, was released to accompany the album’s storyline. The “movie” was 54 minutes long. The Road Behind EP was released after the album, which contained the song of the same name, and a live version of “Have You Seen Me?” as well as other unreleased tracks. The single “S.F.W.” was supposedly on the album as a bonus track, though the band has discounted that. A special edition of the album was released through Metal Blade in November of 2009. This contained the album, as well as a DVD with Phallus in Wonderland and Tour De Scum. Gwar fans are often referred to as “bohabs”, from Father Bohab. (Bohab literally means “habitually boring”, which is the opposite of the band and their fans). An interesting song is “Pussy Planet,” which is the closer for the album. It was co-written by Slymenstra Hymen, and it she was meant to sing it, and duet it with Beefcake the Mighty. Though this didn’t turn out to be the final product, as the song just has Beefcake singing, you can still hear her voice in the song. Another thing to note was that the Canadian release of this album does not include the songs “Crack in the Egg”, “Have You Seen Me?”, and “Rock ‘N’ Roll Never Felt So Good”, and instead has a demo of “Krak Down”, and “Bad Bad Men” and a version of the Canadian national anthem, “O Canada,” which is done with synthesized infant cries to ridicule Canada for being “babies” and not included the omitted songs.
