Back Home In New Orleans is a Blues album by Champion Jack Dupree, originally released in 1990. On Gatefold: 5 pressings tracked.
About
By far the best of Dupree's three albums for Bullseye Blues, this collection was cut during the pianist's first trip home to the Crescent City in 36 long years. Dupree sounds happy to be back in his old stomping grounds throughout the atmospheric set. Recording was with his longtime accompanist Swedish guitarist Kenn Lending helping on a half dozen tracks and a crack New Orleans band including guitarist Wayne Bennett, trumpeter Teddy Riley, bassist Walter Payton Jr., and tenor saxman Alvin "Red" Tyler play on the remainder. This session was made during Dupree's long, long overdue return visit to his first blues turf. The seventy-nine-year-old Hamburg resident's fingers no longer drive the piano keys and his voice doesn't resonate as in years past, but the feeling is there in spades. His sincerity envelops songs about alcohol, paramours, life's downside, universal brotherhood-his words never come forth smug or perfunctory.
