Released digitally on July 9, 2021, by Hollywood Records and Marvel Music, the soundtrack features 26 tracks that blend orchestral elements with Russian influences to reflect the film’s themes and characters. Lorne Balfe crafted a distinctive musical identity for Natasha Romanoff, drawing inspiration from Russian lullabies and poetry. The score incorporates a 118-piece orchestra and a 60-voice choir singing Russian lyrics adapted from works by Alexander Pushkin, Leo Tolstoy, and Mikhail Lermontov. Balfe aimed to evoke the spirit of the Red Army in Yelena Belova’s theme, avoiding clichéd instruments like the balalaika to maintain authenticity. Additionally, the film features a haunting cover of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Think Up Anger featuring Malia J during the opening credits, as well as other songs like “American Pie” by Don McLean and “Cheap Thrills” by Sia featuring Sean Paul.
