About
Blót: Sacrifice in Sweden is a live album by American martial-industrial and neofolk band Blood Axi, released in 1998 by the influential Cold Meat Industry label. The album captures Blood Axis' performance on November 15, 1997, at Cold Meat Industry’s 10th Anniversary Feast held at Skylten in Linköping, Sweden. This live recording is often hailed as one of the band’s most powerful moment, showcasing a fusion of martial rhythm, neofolk melodie, classical reinterpretation, and ritualistic ambiance that defines the group’s unique sound. The performance includes reimagined classical compositions such as Handel’s “Sarabande Oratoria,” Prokofiev’s “Reign I Forever,” and Bach-inspired motif, alongside traditional and folk-influenced pieces like the Irish march “The March of Brian Boru,” the Dave Cousins-penned “The Hangman and the Papist,” and Ian Read’s “Seeker.” Blood Axis also revisits several tracks from their seminal debut album The Gospel of Inhumanity, including “Electricity,” “Lord of Age,” and the title track. The album culminates in a sweeping 12-track journey blending neoclassical darkwave, dark ambient, and martial industrial into a cohesive and immersive ritual. The performance lineup consisted of Michael Moynihan (vocal, bodhrán), Robert Ferbrache (guitar, keyboards), and Annabel Lee (melodeon, electric violin). The concert was recorded live directly from the mixing board by Albin Julius (of Der Blutharsch), and later remixed and mastered by Ferbrache and Moynihan at Studio Absenta in Colorado. .
