About
Call of the Mastodon is a compilation of early songs from the heavy metal band Mastodon. It was released on February 7, 2006 by Relapse Record. All songs on this compilation originally appeared on the band's 9 Song Demo. The songs here have had new vocals recorded by bassist Troy Sanders and guitarist Brent Hind, replacing the vocals of the band's original vocalist Eric Saner. The songs have also been given a new order, and the album has been given a significantly louder remastering. Five of the songs also appeared in different versions on the band's second EP Lifesblood; an additional three also appeared on the band's first EP Slick Leg. The title song of this collection previously appeared only on the band's demo. The Japanese release of Call of the Mastodon incorporates vocal samples that were included on Lifesblood, which are not included on any other release of Call of the Mastodon (or on the band's demo). It also contains a live performance of "Where Strides the Behemoth", running for 3:08, as a bonus track. .
