About
Rod Stewart entered the mid-’80s making confident and pneumatic funk rock, heavily doused in synth brass (“Bad for You”) and mixed for high drama (“Camouflage”). His raw delivery is more than a match for the musical rowdiness, particularly on a pumped-up version of Free’s “All Right Now.” But it’s the comparatively wistful moments, such as his yearning cover of “Some Guys Have All the Luck” and the gentle finale “Trouble,” that fully reassert his soul-man credentials.
