About

✪ Christopher Lee -- Charlemagne: By the Sword and the Cross ✪ History Charlemagne (pronounced /ˈʃɑrlɨmeɪn/; Latin: Carolus Magnus or Karolus Magnu, meaning Charles the Great; 2 April 742 – 28 January 814) was King of the Franks from 768 and Emperor of the Romans (Imperator Romanorum) from 800 to his death. He expanded the Frankish kingdom into a Frankish Empire that incorporated much of Western and Central Europe. During his reign, he conquered Italy and was crowned Imperator Augustus by Pope Leo III on 25 December 800 which temporarily made him a rival of the Byzantine Emperor in Constantinople. His rule is also associated with the Carolingian Renaissance, a revival of art, religion, and culture through the medium of the Catholic Church. Through his foreign conquests and internal reform, Charlemagne helped define both Western Europe and the Middle Age. He is numbered as Charles I in the regnal lists of France, Germany (where he is known as Karl der Große), and the Holy Roman Empire. About the music Charlemagne: By the Sword and the Cross is a symphonic metal concept album released in 2010 by actor Christopher Lee. It tells the story of the First Holy Emperor of Rome, King Charlemagne. Notably, Lee himself is a descendant of Charlemagne through his Italian ancestor. The album features The Tolkien Ensemble from Denmark, a 100 piece orchestra, two metal band, namely Manowar and Rhapsody of Fire, and a number of guest vocalists playing the different roles in the story. It was produced by Italian musician, composer and producer Marco Sabiu. Track listing 01. Overture (2:53) 02. Act I: Intro (1:34) 03. Act I: King Of The Franks (7:14) 04. Act II: Intro (1:46) 05.
