About

Chuck Berry's Golden Hits was released in March 1967 on Mercury Records, catalogue SR 61103. Serving as his inaugural release for the new label, the album did not feature new material but instead consisted of re-recorded versions of his legendary Chess label classics. The only exception on the tracklist was the fresh composition "Club Nitty Gritty," which was the sole non-re-recording included. The release was heavily driven by Mercury's desire to own its own versions of Berry's catalog, while also capitalizing on the growing industry trend toward modern stereo recordings. Taking full charge of the sessions at Technasonic Studios, Berry .
