About

Sometimes an album title is an album title-nothing more. Same goes with cover art. But somehow both the title and the cover art truly express the overall flavor of the music you'll hear on this album. From the wonderful opener "East River Drive" on through the title cut,"Reaching Out" and "Make Love To You" the dripping quality achieved by the rhythm section including percussion, keyboards and Grovers sax itself does indeed maintain a feeling of...that groggy feeling one has after a long night without sleep and the sun is starting to emmerge. Everything looks and sounds very fluid and flowing but subdued at the same time. This is therefore the perfect follow up for Winelight,an album with a distinct nighttime flavor. The vocal tunes on this album both present different styles between them. Both sung by Grady Tate,"Be Mine (Tonight)" is a full fledged part of the overall "morningtime funk" feel that is prominant on the rest of the album itself, romantic but again more groggy and dizzy than mellow and relaxed in feel to give it more of an emmerging flavor than one of settling into a sound wheras "Little Black Samba" is a great, more uptempo Brazilian variation on the sound with great lyrics about that area of South America being an area where elements of the African culture are still alive in the dances and music of the region;the steel drum-like sound of the percussion really makes this track come alive. "Making Love To You" and "I'm All Yours" find a middle ground in a more midtempo place. No this is not an album full of a lot of musical surprises in terms of the overall sound but the groove achieved here is so great it's not at all difficult to hear into the heart of the song to the enormous wealth of feeling within them.
