About
Some of these songs have been around for a very long time and the band always wanted to make sure they got recorded properly. Starting with The Way It Ends, which was originally written in sometime in 1994 or 95 believe it or not. Same goes for With Vision. Some of these songs predate Prototype's first album Trinity. Cold Is This God is a Psychosis tune that they also wanted to unearth improve on. Some people still like the original version better. Prototype recorded all of the guitars, bass and vocals in their rehearsal room in North Hollywood on a Roland VS-1680 recorder, same as all of Trinity was made. They were on their way to mix it themselves, as they had for Trinity, but then decided it was perhaps time to get someone that knew what they were doing involved in the mixing process. So they got Neil Kernon (Nevermore, Queensryche, Cannibal Corpse, Nile) to mix it in Chicago. Kragen and Vince flew out and for five days they watched the songs come to life in his hands, making them sound so killer. Sea Of Tranquility was recorded in Kragen's living room on Vince's Takamine classical that he actually bought from Kragen back in like 1992. They added some sea shore sounds to make the piece have a double meaning. The sounds of the sea are interweaved with the title Sea Of Tranquility, where the monolith was found in the movie 2001 on the Moon, which leads into Transcendent Velocity, a song based on the 2001/2010 movies. The title Synthespian means a synthetic actor, meaning a digital character, powerful and overtaking of reality. The weirdest track would have to be Probe. For starters it was recorded with 7 string guitars (Prototype's next release for 2010 is all 7 string) and it's an oddity, and really hard to play and sing live! Heart Machine features Pat Magrath on drums... because they had a demo recording of it that wasn't half bad on drums (sound wise) so they decided to use it. Those same sessions had found them recording the two European bonus tracks from Trinity as well.
