About

David Lowery was a major contributor to the psychedelic, alternative artsy pop-rock of Camper Van Beethoven. With Cracker, he decided to play a tougher, guitar-based rock that could still be goofy and crack jokes when the mood struck. “Teen Angst (What the World Needs Now)” is a top-notch piece of quick-witted pop rock with a killer chorus. “Happy Birthday to Me,” “Mr. Wrong” and “Someday” crawl towards country-rock with Lowery snarling choruses that are simultaneously sarcastic, sad and joyous. Guitarist Johnny Hickman adds his own muscular riffs to the mix and the band plays like a tight, dedicated unit. “This Is Cracker Soul” doesn’t exactly head towards R&B, but does add an extra slink to its backbeat. “I See The Light” and “St. Cajetan” call up the gospel-rock and country-rock ghosts of the Rolling Stones’ Exile On Main St.. Cracker sound fresh and classic all at once.
