Fusing the crate-digging collages of his early work with underground rap, '70s soul, sci-fi synthscapes, and the songwriter impulses of <i>The Third Hand</i>, <i>Dame Fortune</i> is an expansive, encyclopedic experience that covers so much ground in so little time you wonder what kind of ship he’s driving. Take, for example, the opening hat trick of “A Portal Inward,” “The Roaming Hoard,” and “Peace of What,” which gets us from Mars, 3003 to Philadelphia, 1972 without breaking a sweat.
