Though Roger Waters had left the group in the early '80s, Pink Floyd soldiered on as a trio, highly fortified by guest musicians. <i>Delicate Sound of Thunder</i> is a live album recorded in August 1988 over a five-night stay at New York's Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, featuring big songs from Pink Floyd's quartet days and six tracks from its then-current studio album, <i>A Momentary Lapse of Reason</i>. Keyboardist Richard Wright handled lead vocals for "Time" and "Comfortably Numb," while the remainder of Waters' vocal parts were done more than capably by David Gilmour, who'd always had the group's more pleasing voice and was often its lead singer. Of the classics, "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is more about Gilmour's shimmering leads and the interplay between guitar and keyboards, while "One of These Days" is a welcome deep-album cut that features Pink Floyd at its most psychedelic. "Comfortably Numb" centers around Gilmour's legendary guitar solo, while "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" is a perfect song for an arena crowd.
