About

Things change. The number two album from Turbo Fruits finds guitarist/vocalist Jonas Stein surrounded with new band mates, and playing on team Fat Possum instead of Ecstatic Peace. And the music? With the Fruits’ Sabbath-style sludge coating traded in for something more like a poke with a sharp stick, the band’s exuberant energy feels even more frothy than that of their debut, and Stein’s love of a good time is palpable. “Broadzilla,” “Trouble” and “Naked With You” brim with a love of music from decades past, dipping into surf, glam and even Bo Diddley, and songs like “Want Some Mo’”(a killer opening track) and “Lotta Lotta Ladies” are fun, fast and furious. “My Stupid Heart” is a ‘50s ballad brought into the 21st century, while Stein’s vocals on “Get Up Get On Down” conjures Marc Bolan of T-Rex, and the wildly careening guitars and pummeled drums are pure ‘70s punk. There’s almost too much fun here for one record; you might want to pace yourself on that first listen.
