"FM (No Static At All)" first appeared on FM (The Original Movie Soundtrack) and on global singles with various edits in 1978. In 1982, the song was reissued in the UK to help promote the release of the "Gold" compilation, where it made its first appearance on a Steely Dan album. This version has a guitar solo playing over the instrumental outro. In 1991, the expanded edition of "Gold" included a new version with a saxophone solo outro instead, which was used on subsequent Steely Dan compilations until 2006's Showbiz Kids (The Steely Dan Story 1972-1980).
