About

Back in 1978 when each member of KISS released a solo record, Ace Frehley’s was the only one to yield a Billboard hit – his stompy cover of Hello’s “New York Groove” rose to #13. Ace showed everyone that he wasn’t just Gene and Paul’s lead guitarist, though it took another nine years before his first album outside of KISS, Frehley’s Comet, came out in 1987, and it mirrored the more metal-tinged tones of the time. “Rock Soldiers” launches the Comet with an autobiographical account of the time Ace crashed his DeLeorean trying to outrun the police by driving drunk the wrong way down a one-way street. Of course Ace’s stellar guitar work is what really makes this album memorable; especially on “Break Out” where his lightning leads fire off like lasers. “Into The Night” plays like it could have been on the soundtrack to The Karate Kid, but “Love Me Right” redeems it by making 1987 sound like 1978.
