About
In all its studio overdubs and drum-machine micro-grooves, Fresh contracts the breezy ensemble sound of Sly & the Family Stone's earlier material for an album of pressurized funk and psychedelic soul. Though they weren’t hits, "In Time" and "Let Me Have It All" are some of Sly's most recognizable songs, his elasticized voice ping-ponging between a sparse, syncopated rhythm section, female backing singers, and woozy horns. "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)," their soulful take on Doris Day’s whimsical ballad, is the band's only studio-album cover.
