About

This deluxe edition of The Afghan Whigs’ 1993 major-label debut features a remastered version of the original album and 17 bonus tracks, including demos, b-sides, and live performances, most of which are previously unreleased. The original album expanded on the dark sounds and R&B influences heard on their previous album, Congregation, capturing a nuanced “cinematic” sound as the album was “shot on location” at Ardent Studios in Memphis. Eight demos were recorded at bassist John Curley’s Ultrasuede studio in Cincinnati. A passionate film noir version of the classic soul tune “The Dark End of the Street” best showcases the band’s seductive allure.
