About
"Greatest Hits II" is a compilation album by the British rock band Queen, released on 28 October 1991. The album contains a selection of the band’s most successful songs released between 1981 and 1991, including "Under Pressure" and "The Show Must Go On". "Greatest Hits II" reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and has sold around 3.9 million copies in the United Kingdom as of 2014, making it one of the country’s best-selling album. It is also among the best-selling albums in several European market, including Germany and France, and is the best-selling album by a foreign artist in Finland. Combined worldwide sales of "Greatest Hits II" and its North American counterpart "Classic Queen" exceed 25 million copie. The crest featured on the album cover was designed by Freddie Mercury and incorporates the astrological signs of the band members: two Leos for Roger Taylor and John Deacon, a Cancer for Brian May, and a Virgo for Mercury. The compilation includes many of Queen’s major singles from the 1981–1991 period. Several songs from that era were not included, such as "Body Language", "Back Chat", "Las Palabras de Amor", "Thank God It's Christmas", "Princes of the Universe" and "Scandal". Some of these track, including "Las Palabras de Amor", "Thank God It's Christmas", "These Are the Days of Our Lives" and "Princes of the Universe", were later included on the compilation "Greatest Hits III". The album was released less than a month before the death of lead singer Freddie Mercury and was the final Queen release issued during his lifetime. It was not initially released in the United State, where the compilation "Classic Queen" was issued in early 1992 instead, following renewed interest in the band after "Bohemian Rhapsody" was featured in the film "Wayne's World". "Greatest Hits II" was later released in the United States as part of the box sets "Greatest Hits I & II" in 1994 and "The Platinum Collection: Greatest Hits I, II & III" in 2002. In 2011, Hollywood Records issued a remastered version of the album in the United States as a standalone release. .
