About
"Haram" is the fifth studio album by American hip-hop duo Armand Hammer, in collaboration with hip hop record producer the Alchemist. It was released on March 26, 2021, via Backwoodz Studioz. The "ALC Records" version of the album includes a 15th track, an instrumental song titled "Moneylenders." The album's artwork depicts two decapitated pig heads, and received criticism from animal rights group PETA, labelling it as both "terrifying" and "cruel", even telling the Alchemist to change it: "Focus on the music, not the shock value of dead animals." billy woods responded in interviews basically calling out their hypocrisy, stating that PETA adds used similar pictures to raise awareness. The album was announced at the start of March, 2021, but there would be no supporting singles until the album fully dropped, outside of a 30-second preview of "God's Feet" which they released on their YouTube. The next day, the opener "Sir Benni Miles", received a music video, premiering alongside the rest of the album. May 14, saw a video for the closer "Stonefruit," a fan and artist favourite. June 3 saw the release of the video for "Falling Out the Sky," which had easily become the most popular release by not only Armand Hammer but their respective solo careers, of course boosted by Earl Sweatshirt, who is deeply associated with 2010s superstars like Tyler, the Creator and Frank Ocean. Haram was the duo's biggest release to date, and saw a massive influx in their numbers and metrics. The duo are, to this day, feeling the ripple effects of Haram, which was of course boosted by The Alchemist, who was fresh off his RAOTY-Grammy-nominated collab with Freddie Gibbs.
