About
After getting his start in the disco era with Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band (best known for its hit single "Cherchez La Femme"), Kid Creole (a.k.a. August Darnell) has been putting out highly original, super-theatrical, genre-bending, multicultural dance music since 1980. With a strong influence from the past (especially Cab Calloway) as well as then-current artists like Prince (who wrote his Sheila E. collaboration single, "The Sex of It"), Kid Creole released more than a dozen albums in a 20-year span, racked up multiple chart hits, toured the world, appeared in several films, and was nominated for a GRAMMY®. <i>I Wake Up Screaming</i> is his first new album in over a decade, and it finds the Kid staying true to his vibe of high-energy, mildly risqué party tunes loaded with exotic percussion, addictive beats, and funkafied, horn-laden instrumentation. Check out "Long Live the King," "This Is My Life," and "Blow Me Up."
