GROUPLOVE became instant indie-pop darlings in 2011 with their aptly titled debut, <i>Never Trust a Happy Song</i>, and since then, they’ve rarely wavered in their mission to sell anxiety as exuberance. The first thing you may notice about the LA group’s sixth album is that all its 11 songs sport one-word titles—a fitting gesture for a group that’s become ever more astute at getting straight to the point and hitting their emotional targets with sniperlike accuracy. On <i>I Want It All Right Now</i>, you’ll hear co-vocalists Christian Zucconi and Hannah Hooper sound off on urban malaise (“Cheese”), social isolation (“Hello”), and death as an escape from the relentless hardships of daily life (“Eyes”), but GROUPLOVE’s irrepressible energy and easygoing earworms make it easy to overlook the doomsday prognostications.
