About
A New York City producer, Blockhead is probably best known for his extensive body of work with Aesop Rock. Signed to the forward-thinking U.K. label Ninja Tune, he's also spent the last decade-plus releasing quality, mostly instrumental albums loaded with moody samples, chunky drums, mysterious vocal clips, and smoky effects. Interludes After Midnight is his fifth solo record, and it finds him in a similar vein. On this go-around, he draws inspiration from the pre-digital, pre-Web era of the late '80s and early '90s, as evidenced by the VHS-style cover art and a shoutout to late-night cable-access queen Robin Byrd. Like most of his previous work, this is contemplative background music for headphones and bedrooms, not suited for the club or crossover charts. It's ideal for fans of early DJ Shadow, RJD2, and Nobody. Don't miss "Never Forget Your Token," "Meet You at Tower Records," and the old-school electro vibe of "Tools of the Industry."
