About

Kat Moda EP is a 1996 EP by Jeff Mills, released on his Purpose Maker label. The record is a defining statement of Mills’ mid-1990s minimal Detroit techno phase, emphasizing precision, repetition and functional DJ tools over melody or narrative. The EP features four tracks — The Bells, Kat Race, Alarms and Cyclone — all built around stripped-down rhythmic structures, sharp percussive elements and controlled use of space. These tracks became staples in Jeff Mills’ DJ sets and are widely regarded as some of the most influential examples of loop-driven techno designed for long-form mixing. Kat Moda EP helped establish the Purpose Maker label as a platform for Mills’ more minimal, hypnotic and physical approach to techno, distinct from his earlier work with Underground Resistance and Axis Records.
