Lemon Kid by Jeffrey Novak

Lemon Kid is a Rock album by Jeffrey Novak, originally released in 2013. On Gatefold: 3 pressings tracked.

About

As the leader of Nashville garage rockers Cheap Time, Jeffrey Novak has already established himself as a prolific writer and rocker—and the solo part of his career is turning out to be quite eclectic and prolific as well. Comparisons to Brian Eno and John Cale are certainly valid, though Novak isn’t concerned with the level of Zen acceptance that appears in those artists' work. He sings with a bratty and demanding punkish yowl, and the music remains so agitated with that punk energy to be considered too reflective or a willingly controlled studio experiment. Recorded at Novak's home studio, Lemon Kid features ambitious and somewhat crazy efforts, especially heightened by the swarming conclusion of “Heritage Towers” (the album’s longest and most detailed cut). The guitar instrumental “German Orange” is a further detonation of the same explosive musical bomb. Songs like “Night for Day” and “Losing Charm” sound like Novak mixing Elton John, Harry Nilsson, and Robyn Hitchcock together until a chemical reaction takes the music elsewhere.
