About
George Thorogood & The Destroyers are the luckiest bar band on earth. They’ve never attempted blatant pop moves and stuck to the sound of the “slide guitar” blues, played by a man who is always on the verge of losing control. This 1982 performance in Boston was a good night for the band as they venture through their catalog, tearing new holes into Hank Williams’ “Move It On Over” and John Lee Hooker’s “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer.” Thorogood also had a modest hit with the Isley Brothers’ and the Human Beinz’s hit “Nobody But Me,” which closes out this set. In between, it’s the usual barroom night with electrifying and loud takes on “New Boogie Chillun” “Miss LuAnn” and “Wild Weekend.” There isn’t a bummer in the bunch. Thorogood manages to turn audiences into fans of the music he likes rather than trying to please audiences with what he thinks they’d like to hear.
