Manhattan Stories by Charles Lloyd

Manhattan Stories is a Jazz album by Charles Lloyd, originally released in 2014. On Gatefold: 3 pressings tracked.

About

Charles Lloyd was well on his way to an iconic career in 1965 when these two New York City live sets were recorded in the divergent settings of the sit-down Judson Hall in Midtown and a legendary jazz dive named Slug’s in the East Village. Featuring Lloyd, guitarist Gabor Szabo, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Pete Roca Sims, the six lengthy pieces here let the members really stretch (well captured, with surprisingly good sound as well). Lloyd sticks to tenor saxophone on classic versions of “Sweet Georgia Bright” and “Dream Weaver,” but his darting and melodic flute on both versions of “Lady Gabor” also stands out.
