After the dark emotion of <i>Boys Outside</i> and the politically inflamed <i>Monkey Minds In the Devil’s Time</i>, <i>Meet the Humans</i> finds the former Beta Band man in a comparatively settled mood. The lyrics tend towards world-weary optimism and, musically, it’s his most fully formed record: elegant folk-pop enhanced by dub, hip-hop, house and a richness encouraged by his producer, Elbow’s Craig Potter. Laced with beauty, majesty, anger and euphoria, “Planet Sizes” may even be the best four minutes of Mason’s enthrallingly maverick career.
