About

My Body, The Hand Grenade is the only compilation album by American rock band Hole, released on October 28, 1997 through the band's European label, City Slang Record. It features live version, cover, B-side, and demo, ranging from 1990 to 1995. The LP is dedicated to Kristen Pfaff, who played bass in Hole from 1993 to 1994. She passed away that same year, at 27. The album was compiled with the intent to bridge the band's dynamic shifts in musical style, from their noise rock beginnings and debut album, Pretty on the Inside (1991), to their more streamlined, highly acclaimed followup, Live Through This (1994). The album features tracks from the band's first recording session in the spring of 1990, as well as several b-side, single, and rare live songs from between 1991 and 1995. Production and mixing of the album was done chiefly by the band's lead guitarist, Eric Erlandson. The cover artwork features a picture of a dress in a glass display case, as though it was exposed in a museum. The dress is a strong reference to the Live Through This era – Hole at their most iconic and recognizable – since it was worn by Courtney Love in the Miss World music video, as well as in a number of photoshoots of the period. .
