About

"Nancy in London" is the third studio album by Nancy Sinatra, released in 1966, via Reprise Records. Although the photo from Nancy Sinatra's third solo studio album shows the sultry singer dressed in London mod gear, sitting in a 1966 Nancy double-decker bus in London, it does not feature Frank's daughter covering one of British Invasion's fabulous hits. But that does not mean that these recordings suffer from the same incongruity as the concept. Her opening rendition of Weil and Mann's "On Broadway" might very well be the best version next to the 1963 hit by The Drifters. And her silky voice gives "I Can't Grow Peaches on a Cherry Tree" by Estelle Levitt a texture as rich as any perfectly arranged strings here. But it's the strange chemistry between the ethereal inflexions of Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood's cryptic approach to songwriting that makes the best songs from these records. Add to that the contrast of Hazlewood's gritty vocals, and songs like his "Summer Wine" and "Friday's Child" stand out like flowers growing on a cactus. A deluxe edition released in 2006 features four bonus tracks, including a book-ending duet with Frank.
