About
In combining symphonic black metal, majestic doom, ’80s shred, and the occasional old-school death metal riff, Worm conjures their self-described “necromantic black doom” on Necropalace. The Can/Am duo’s fourth album sees guitarist Wroth Septentrion and vocalist/keyboardist Phantom Slaughter plumbing the depths of ’90s musical extremity with a VHS horror sensibility. The haunted-house keyboards and Shrapnel Records solos of the title track give way to the vampiric sting and spacey melodic leads of “The Night Has Fangs,” while candlelit nightmare “Dragon Dreams” roils in a medieval atmosphere. Sky-bound closer “Witchmoon: The Infernal Masquerade” clangs, lurches, and howls toward an extended guitar climax featuring former Megadeth shredder Marty Friedman.
