About
Boston quintet New Edition put their silky harmonies and peppy, street-smart hooks front and center on their second album. Songs such as the longing, heartbroken “Mr. Telephone Man” and the sparkling “Lost in Love” hit soul’s sweet spot. But the group also dabble in fizzy electro-pop: The snappy “Cool It Now,” the playful “My Secret (Didja Get It Yet?),” and the jittery, freestyle-echoing “Kinda Girls We Like” serve as fresh, energetic counterpoints to the songs where they wear their hearts proudly on their sleeves.
