About
One of Peter Gabriel's many bright ideas was bringing Pakistan's foremost singer of the devotional Sufi music <i>Qawwali</i> together with sonic wizard Michael Brook. The results are exotic but invitingly pop-friendly, with layers of synthesizers, bowed guitars, and vocals overdubbed into a heavenly choir. There's a luxurious prog-rock feel to "Intoxicated," while fluid reggae rhythms support "My Comfort Remains." Nusrat's voice feels warm and gentle, until his soul-stirring wails are fully unleashed on the cathartic "Longing."
