Noctis Labyrinthus by Jute Gyte

Noctis Labyrinthus is an Electronic album by Jute Gyte, originally released in 2013.

About

This album was largely inspired by medieval and renaissance music and by Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars novels. The only sound source in "Gwyar" is a heavily-processed sample of Dufay's Je ne vis oncques la pareille, arranged to expand and then contract with each repetition (think AABABCABCDBCDCDD). This material is then treated pseudo-canonically. "Iani Chaos" shares this expanded/contracting canonic form. "Noachian" is a sort of prolation canon on a single pitch for 11 voices, each one repeating only a single note of the natural minor scale, each at a different rate, with melodic and harmonic content emerging from the resulting interplay of voices. I tend to think of this album as a sibling to the earlier Ghost Sickness.
