Nothing Compares 2 U

This is the original 1984 recording by Prince.
The Song 'Nothing Compares 2 U' was initially released on The Family's debut album (opens in a new tab).
After the cover version by Sinéad O'Connor (opens in a new tab) became a worldwide number one hit, Prince began performing the song on his concerts and released a live version (recorded in 1992) on CD Single (opens in a new tab) and on the The Hits 1 compilation.
The 1984 recording was initially available to order on 7" picture disc exclusive via the "HITNRUN" online store (operated by 'The Prince Estate' from 19 to 25 April 2018) as part of various bundles (record combined with custom made/limited edition T-shirt or Jacket) and on all digital platforms to download.
One day later a limited edition on purple vinyl (opens in a new tab) was available at the merchandise in Paisley Park during the annual celebration and also at the"Electric Fetus" record store (in Minneapolis) to "Paisley Park Celebration 2018" badge holders only. It was limited to one copy per badge. Upon purchase, the badge altered with a star-shaped punch hole.
One day later (Saturday) "Electric Fetus" offered another 300 copies for purchase (while supplies last) for the Record Store Day 2018 with the same 'one copy per person' policy.
After the Celebration/Record Store weekend "Electric Fetus" sold a unknown amount of the purple vinyl edition online, it was sold out within a few hours. Since then they had drop in sporadic intervals some copies on discogs marketplace and/or other platforms.
A limited black vinyl edition was released one month later and since June 2019 the recording is also available on the Originals album.
