About
Sweden’s Witchcraft were one of the first 21st century metal bands to make a mission of reviving late-’60s/early-’70s acid-rock grooves, and on their fifth album they’re still at it—and now more prog about it, at least in the 14-minute title song and nearly 16-minute “Breakdown.” Both of those slip into placid sections strung with wordless vocal chants, while comparatively compact cuts like “Theory of Consequence” and “The Obsessed” are more straight-to-the-gut proto-metal punches. Opener “Malstroem” sports a Celtic feel—like Jethro Tull at their heaviest.
