Featuring tracks including the blockbuster collaboration with Sub Focus (“Desire”), and live favorites “Devotion” and “Saviour,” Robert Etheridge’s—aka Dimension’s—debut translates his acclaimed, multi-sensory live experience into a surprisingly rich drum ’n’ bass experience. There are gargantuan, anthemic moment, of course. But tracks like “Psycho” couple crunchy bass with a West Coast hip-hop energy, while “UK Border Patrol” and “Altar” recall some of electronic music’s boldest sonic architects including DJ Shadow, Burial, and Gesaffelstein. “It’s easy to get pigeon-holed in drum ’n’ ba, but I’ve always seen myself as an electronic music producer first and foremost and I wanted to show the world everything I can do,” he tells Apple Music. “The album has amazing high-energy drum ’n’ bass moments but there’s lots of other things in the mix too. It’s a real time-stamp of where I’m at musically right now.” Here, Dimension highlights some key track. <b>Alive (feat. Poppy Baskcomb)</b> “Myself, Sub Focu, and a few other artists often tour together under the name Worship. We were touring the State, and while on a flight I noticed everyone else was producing music on their laptop. I started to feel producer’s guilt so I whipped out my computer and started to put some chords together and they just stuck. I worked on it in different places for a while and eventually found Poppy Baskcomb, who’s this amazingly talented singer who really brought it together.” <b>Psycho</b> “I was playing around with really gnarly sounds and wanted to reference classic West Coast sounds but with modern-day production. I had the instrumental for a while and eventually got put on to an amazing rapper called Knytro, who I think might be one of the most slept-on artists in the world. He gave me so much material but I could only use about five per cent of what he did. This one works really well in the show.” <b>UK Border Patrol</b> “I wrote this on Christmas Day a few years back and it’s got a special place in my heart. It was really nice to write something a bit more downtempo that references DJ Shadow record. The track’s making a point about what the UK can sometimes be like for people who are not originally from here. It’s got a really famous sample from ‘The Bouncer’ by Kicks Like a Mule. I like how the sample doesn’t really make sense in the context of the track until you get to the end.” <b>Love To Give (with Culture Shock & Billy Lockett)</b> “It was an amazing experience working on this track with both Billy Lockett, who’s an amazing vocalist, and Culture Shock, who’s held in such high regard in drum ’n’ bass for his production work. This is another record that took a few years to come together and we used a lot of analog gear like the Roland Juno-106. This is a really uplifting festival anthem, and the songwriting prowess Billy brought to the table was amazing.” <b>Desire</b> .
