About
Power from Hell is the debut studio album by English thrash metal band Onslaught, released in February 1985. Apparently confusion has arisen as to who coined the term Death Metal, as it was Onslaught who wrote their song 'Death Metal' in early 1984 and recorded the album version later in the same year, and Possessed who recorded their song entitled "Death Metal" on their 1984 demo tape of the same name. Power from Hell was reissued in 1996 by Powerage Records, again in 2005 by Blackend Records and received a full remaster by Jacob Hansen for the 2012 release on AFM Records; the 2012 release rectifies the track listing problem encountered on previous releases and has revamped artwork with liner notes by Steve Grice. Paul Mahoney (Mo) - Vocals, Lyrics (tracks 5, 6) Nige Rockett - Vocals (tracks 5, 7), Guitars, Lyrics (tracks 1, 2, 5-9, 11) Jason Stallard - Bass Steve Grice - Drums.

Originally released in the UK on the 4th of February 1985, by Children Of The Revolution Records.
In the USA it was released on the 25th of June 1985 by Pusmort.
It is considered a defining release of the first wave of Thrash Metal in the early eighties, along with Slayer, Venom, Exodus etc.
Some consider this album to be the first «Death Metal» release that also named the genre (much like Venom’s Black Metal)...
But Onslaught wrote their song «Death Metal» in early 1984, recorded the album version later in the same year, and released the album on the 4th of February 1985.
Possessed on the other hand recorded their song entitled «Death Metal» also on their 1984 demo tape Death Metal
The album was reissued in 2005 by Blackend Records and received a full remaster by Jacob Hansen for the 2011 release on AFM Records.
"Thermonuclear Devastation of the Planet Earth" and "Power from Hell" were re-recorded in 2011 and added as bonus tracks in some releases since then.
The 2012 release rectifies the track listing problem encountered on previous releases and has revamped artwork with liner notes by Steve Grice.
"Mighty Empress" contains part of "O Fortuna", a medieval Latin Goliardic poem which is part of the collection known as the "Carmina Burana (opens in a new tab)", written in the early 13th century.
Opening intro:
"Behold! I am the lord Satan, the grand master of Hell.
I have come to bear witness to the information of those who disbelieve
Succumb, or feel my wrath as I release this: Power From Hell!"
