About

Mama Lion was clearly destined to show off the Joplinesque voice and the very impressive figure of Lynn Carey… the music was a rather loose mix of blue, pop, soul and rock. However it contains some decent tracks like “Be Bad With Me”, “Wildcat”, “Mr. Invitation” and a cover of Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine”. The daughter of the actor and poet McDonald Carey, Lynn Carey grew up in Beverly Hill. A sculptural blonde beauty, in 1966 she played in the George Axelrod’s comedy ‘Lord Love A Duck’ with Roddy McDowell and Tuesday Weld, and in 1969 formed her first rock group, C.K. Strong. After working on the soundtracks of two Russ Meyer’s movie, as part of Carrie Nations in ‘Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls’ and performing with a group the song Midnight Tricks in the film ‘The Seven Minutes’, she met Neil Merryweather and began recording with him, first as Vacuum Cleaner and Ivar Avenue Reunion, and in 1972 as Mama Lion. This group was clearly destined to show off the Joplinesque voice and the very impressive figure of Lynn Carey, and is maybe better remembered for the cover of their first album, with Lynn Carey breastfeeding a lion cub. As often with Merryweather, the music was a rather loose mix of blue, pop, soul and rock. However it contains some decent tracks like “Be Bad With Me”, “Wildcat”, “Mr. Invitation” and a cover of Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine”. Vernon Joynson, Fuzz Acid & Flower. Track listing 01.
