Ralph Tresvant's solo debut is loaded with rollicking new jack swing and smooth pop—and it established his bona fides outside of his group, New Edition. “Rated R” finds him rattling off barbed raps over jackknife drums, while the snappy “Stone Cold Gentleman (Rizz’s Interlude)” is a groovy plea to his would-be sweetheart. On the sexy soul number “Sensitivity,” meanwhile, Tresvant's soft voice glides over the buttery arrangement with a sensual slither to keep couples up all night.
