About
The beautiful haze that hangs over everything the Raveonettes do is again thick and mood enhancing. There’s a palpable sense of haunted enlightenment throughout the tracks. “Recharge & Revolt” is a chilling opener that’s part Jesus & Mary Chain, part-Cure and part-pure Raveonette. “War In Heaven” channels a somber groove, while “Forget That You’re Young” sounds like a beach tune where the sun blurs into the ocean waves. “Apparitions” adds a sinister creep. “Summer Moon” turns in a sweet ballad that’s as delicate as anything the duo has recorded. The harmonies twist together in decadent harmony. Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo lean towards Gothic but retain a love for simple rock n’ roll as “My Time’s Up” plays like a ‘50s ballad with tons of echoed shimmer for dramatic effect. Their music is like listening to old-time radio with your head buried in a funnel. It’s trippy and freaky, yet familiar and oddly soothing.
