About
Although her background as a jazz vocalist was immediately apparent on the breakout 2010 single “Je Veux”, French-born pop vocalist Zaz embraces a much bigger musical palate on her second album, <i>Recto Verso</i>. While playful tunes like “Comme ci, comme ça” use a familiar combination of syncopated jazz guitar and swinging vocals, a subaquatic pulse of synths underpins the opening single, “On ira”. The late-coming highlight “Cette journée” moves to a slinking, soul-influenced bass line. By the time the album closes with the tango rhythm of “La lune”, <i>Recto Verso</i> is a dynamic, diverse showcase of the singer’s wide-ranging talent.
