The title track to Reverend Horton Heat’s 2004 album <i>Revival</i> is one of the band’s all-time great songs. There's nothing gimmicky about it; it's simply a revved-up blues construction, delivered with unforced intensity and tinged with just a hint of genuine poignancy. The Rev had come a long way since their early years. They could still get antsy and silly—just check “Octopus Mode” or “I’m Your Pet Rock”—but increasingly, the truest moments were ones of vulnerability. The exhaust of “Goin’ Back Home” only makes the soft touch of “Someone in Heaven” and “We Belong Forever” even sweeter.
