About

The longevity of Virginia-born cult legend Swamp Dogg is impressive enough, but the man born Jerry Williams Jr. is now as popular as he’s ever been. Swamp Dogg’s Sorry You Couldn’t Make It is his 23rd full-length album. Having honed his skills at the legendary Muscle Shoals studio in Alabama, Swamp Dogg bounced around throughout the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s on various major labels―always close to the mainstream but not quite a part of it. After linking up with Ryan Olson from Poliça and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon for 2018’s Love, Loss, and Auto-Tune, Swamp Dogg has traded in his vocoder for country twang. Joined again by Olson, Vernon, and other guests like John Prine and Jenny Lewis, Williams continues his late-career renaissance in style, moving even further away from his early days as an R&B crooner.
