About

Throughout his lengthy and prolific career, Cal Tjader had one foot firmly planted in Latin rhythms. But the vibraphonist came up in the Bay Area's cool jazz scene, and even on this hip-shaking album, he and his sidemen keep things frosty. Alongside percolating Latin jazz standards like Dizzy Gillespie's "Soul Sauce (Guachi Guaro)" and Mongo Santamaria's "Afro Blue” are chill-ready late-night ballads like "Somewhere in the Night" and "Spring Is Here.” Mellow bossa nova groove "Joao" strikes a perfectly stylish balance.
