About
"Stormblåst" (English: "Stormblown") is the second studio album by the Norwegian symphonic black metal band Dimmu Borgir. It was released on 25 January 1996 through Cacophonous Record, reissued in 2001 by Century Media, and re-recorded in 2005 under the title "Stormblåst MMV". The album was the band's last release performed entirely in Norwegian before they adopted English lyrics for subsequent album. The album marked several lineup and role changes within the band. It was the first Dimmu Borgir album to feature Tjodalv as drummer rather than guitarist, and the first to feature Shagrath as a vocalist, although Silenoz remained the primary lead vocalist on the release. Following the album, Shagrath became the band's lead vocalist, while Silenoz assumed a more limited backing vocal role. The album was also the first on which Shagrath performed lead guitar throughout. In addition, it was the last Dimmu Borgir album to feature lyrics written by Aldrahn of Dødheimsgard and Ved Buens Ende until the release of "Death Cult Armageddon" in 2003, and the last to feature Brynjard Tristan on bass guitar. Compared to the band's earlier material, "Stormblåst" made greater use of keyboards and featured more layered guitar and bass arrangement. The introduction to the song "Guds fortapelse" incorporates material from Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95, "From the New World". The song "Sorgens Kammer" was later identified as containing material derived from the title theme of the Amiga game "Agony", allegedly introduced by keyboardist Stian Aarstad without attribution. As a result, the track was omitted from the 2005 re-recording of the album. The introduction to "Alt lys er svunnet hen" has also been noted for similarities to the song "Sacred Hour" by Magnum, exactly at 00:30 to 00:50, the piano melody is very similar. .
