About
Released in 1991 by ATCO record, "Stranded" was the follow up to "Four Winds" by Tangier. Tangier hailed from the Philadelphia area and honed their skills through playing the South Jersey club circuit. This is a really great album and like their first, stands head and shoulders above the myriad of really average bands being signed at the end of the 80'. Just one listen tells you that Tangier was born from the best - Free, Cream, Zeppelin, Robert Johnson, and ZZ Top. Having replaced Bill Mattson on vocals with Mike LeCompte, Stranded is a bit heavier production than was Four Wind. The band consists of Doug Gordon on guitar, LeCompte on vocal, Garry Nutt on Ba, and Bobbi Bender on drum. Firing up the first tune, "On the Line" tells you this is album is going to be a helluva listen. Really up tempo with blaring harmonica, slide guitars blazing and Hammond howling, this song is really cool - especially the drum meter change. Check out the outsection of that - WHOA. All songs written or co-written by Doug Gordon, the second tune (Caution to the Wind) is a co-write with Gordon and Jim Peterick of Survivor. Really cool kinda West, Bruce and Laing meets Mountain. The first single from the Stranded is an incredible ballad called "Stranded". The video for this featured an unknown Pamela Anderson!! Beatiful 12 string work and key change, this song takes you to a different place. Heaviest tune on the album is Your Not The Lovin Kind co-written by Gordon and Eric Brittingham of Cinderella. Incredible groove on this song that just has to be played really loud. .
