About

With 1966’s Strangers in the Night, Frank Sinatra completed the comeback that had begun the previous year, centered on celebrations for his 50th birthday. The album hit No. 1, as did its title track arranged by Ernie Freeman. The remaining album features Sinatra’s final collaboration with Nelson Riddle, which can be heard as setting the template for much of Sinatra’s future work. Riddle wanted to modernize Sinatra within believable limits, adding organ to the strings and horns and riding an upbeat swing on “All or Nothing at All” and providing Sinatra with a pop link through contemporary hits such as “Downtown” and “On a Clear Day.”
