Brian Sella doesn’t mince words. On "Santa Monica," the frontman for the strummy, punky New Jersey folk-pop group The Front Bottoms declares himself an “emotional baby boy" as furious upstroke chords, chanted backing vocals, and soaring horns keep his pity party lively. Across the group's fourth album, <i>Talon of the Hawk</i>, Sella explores his angst with humor and chiming hooks, whether lamenting his bad habits atop the New Wave synths of "Skeleton" or sticking up for himself while getting dumped on "Au Revoir (Adios)."
