In the 1979 sessions for the <i>A Factory Sample</i> comp and their game-changing debut LP, <i>Unknown Pleasures</i>, they thrived on hard edges and glowering menace, their punk roots unmistakable. By <i>Closer</i>, they were a dance band that sounded haunted by the ghost of what was to come. Drawing from their two albums and five singles, this collection succinctly traces the evolution of an iconic group whose slim catalog casts a deservedly long shadow.
